Finland Police Arrest IPOB Leader, Simon Ekpa
Finnish authorities has Thursday arrested Simon Ekpa, a prominent pro-Biafra separatist agitator, at his apartment in Lahti.
According to the Helsinki Sanomat, police escorted Ekpa out of his residence when they arrived to conduct an interview.
The Finnish police, KRP, prevented the news team from entering Ekpa’s apartment, informing them that the interview would be rescheduled for a later time.
An official of the Finnish Embassy in Abuja anonymously confirmed Ekpa’s arrest and stated that he was currently in police custody in Finland.
Prior to his arrest, Nigerians from around the world had signed a petition urging the Finnish government, Nigerian government, and the European Union to detain Ekpa, who had been issuing sit-at-home orders in the South-East and urging boycotts of the general elections.
The sit-at-home orders have been marked by bloodshed and destruction of property.
Recall, Federal Government had February 15 summoned the Finnish Ambassador to Nigeria, Leena Pylvanainen, to express concern over Ekpa’s “hate speech and incitive comments,” which posed a threat to the upcoming election.
