Federal Court Issues Arrest Warrant for Ex-Gov. Yahaya Bello Amid EFCC Crackdown
A Federal High Court in Abuja, has Wednesday granted an Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) request to issue an arrest warrant for former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello.
The decision follows an ex parte motion filed by the EFCC, leading to a directive from Justice Emeka Nwite for Bello’s arraignment scheduled for Thursday, April 18, 2024.
Justice Nwite’s ruling specifically ordered, “the immediate arrest of the defendant to bring him before this honourable court for arraignment,” setting the case for next day’s hearing.
This legal action comes in the wake of a restraining order from a Lokoja High Court, which previously barred the EFCC from arresting, detaining, or prosecuting the former governor.
Complicating efforts to enforce the warrant, current Kogi Governor Usman Ododo was reportedly seen aiding Bello’s evasion from law enforcement.
