With the Academic Staff Union of Universities strike ongoing and looking unlikely to end soon, EXCEL NEWS has gathered from top sources in the union on why lecturers may not resume soon.
According to multiple sources that spoke to the medium, there are procedures that lead to ending of strike and none of the procedures have been commenced especially with the government yet to call for a dialogue.
“We are waiting for the government to call for a meeting, you know there are various stages to calling-off the Union’s strike but they have not taken effect” a source told our reporter.
On the possibility of the strike ending soon, an official who does not want his name in the news stated that it was not looking likely.
” We cannot say for sure that the strike will end soon except progress is made” the source noted.
It would be recalled that the Academic Staff Union of Universities declared strike action over various issues including the IPPIS which the Union say does not guaranty proper welfare for members.
Other issues such as funding of the education sector are part of the agitation of the lecturers.
