The president of Turkey,Recep Tayyip Erdogan had promised to crush the heads of Kurdish fighters if they fail to withdraw from a planned safe zone area in the northern Syria.
Mr Erdogan made this assertion when he was speaking in a televised event in the central Turkish province of Kayseri on Saturday.
From the available reports,the Turkish president said that they will start from where they left off and continue to crush the heads of Kurdish fighters if Kurdish fighters did not withdraw by Tuesday evening.
‘If Kurdish fighters did not withdraw by Tuesday evening as we agreed in the ceasefire,we will start where we left off and continue to crush the the terrorists heads’,he said
A ceasefire was reached on Thursday to suspend an offensive for five days so that the Kurds can retreat from the area.But on Saturday, both parties have accused the other of not keeping to the dictates of the ceasefire.
The Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) has accused Turkish troops of failing to create a safe corridor for the evacuation of civilians especially the wounded people from Ras Al-Ain,the besieged town.The SDF had enjoined Us vice-president,Mike Pence to help in putting pressure on Turkey to allow the passage of civilians.
Meanwhile,Turkish defence ministry had earlier accused the Kurdish forces of ‘carrying out fourteen provocative attacks in the last 36 hours most in Ras Al-Ain but maintained that the Turkish forces are not violating the agreement.
Despite the ceasefire,it was reported that sporadic violence had continued particularly around the border town of of Ras Al-Ain.
A source close to the Turkish leader revealed that Mr Erdogan will hold talks with Russian President,Valdmir Putin and that if the talks are not fruitful,Turkey would ‘implement its own plans’.
