Nigeria’s Former Senate President, Bukola Saraki has condemned what he described as extra-judicial killing of protesters who are clamoring for Police reforms in the country.
He posted this in a tweet today.
“It is heartbreaking to see unarmed protested demanding for better policing be victims of harassment, illegal detention and extra-judicial killings in the manner we have seen over the last few days” he noted via his official Twitter handle @bukola Saraki.
He urged the President to de-escalate the situation in the interest of the country.
“The government has a responsibility to de-escalate this situation and must act fast in the interest of all”.
Over 10 Nigerians have reportedly lost their lives as the protest to end police brutality in Nigeria continues.
The protesters are demanding that President Muhammadu Buhari addresses them as a way to reassure police reforms.
This came after the inspector General of police Mohammad Adamu, announced the dissolution of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, one that have been of extortion, robbery, killings and many others.
This announcement has not gone down well with protesters who say an executive order is needed to make the dissolution binding.
They are also demanding prosecution of Special Anti-Robbery Squad officials who have been accused of brutality and other offences.
