Elon Musk Moves SpaceX, X HQ to Texas, Citing New California Law
Billionaire entrepreneur, Elon Musk has announced that he is relocating the headquarters of SpaceX and X (formerly Twitter) from California to Texas, Excel Magazine International can report.
The move is in response to a new law passed in California that prohibits schools from requiring staff to disclose information about a child’s gender identity to parents.
Musk stated that this law was “the last straw” in a post on X, citing his opposition to the bill.
He also mentioned that he has previously expressed his support for trans rights while expressing impatience with pronouns.
The move comes after Musk previously relocated Tesla’s headquarters to Texas in 2021 and became a resident of the state, which has no income tax.
SpaceX already has a large base of operations in Texas and employs over 5,000 people in California, according to state records.
California Governor Gavin Newsom criticized Musk’s decision on social media, while Texas Governor Greg Abbott welcomed the move, stating that it cements Texas as the leader in space exploration.
The decision has raised questions about potential job cuts in California, but neither SpaceX nor X responded to requests for comment.
