The Independent National Electoral Commision (INEC) has charged traditional rulers in Ondo State, Nigeria to facilitate peace and help the electorate comply with COVID-19 regulations in the forth coming election scheduled to hold on 10th October.

Prof. Mahmood Yakubu made this request on Thursday in a meeting with the traditional rulers in Akure the state capital. He urged them to see that the candidates hold on to peace on Election Day.

“Basically, we seek for your support in three ways. First, to continue to appeal to political party’s candidates and their supporters for peace, as you have always done in your domains”. Prof. Yakubu pleaded with them to call on their people to keep to the rules of personal and public safety. He reiterated that this is a time of COVID-19 and very important that voters cast their votes and get home safe and sound.

The INEC Chairman asked the people of Ondo State to borrow a leaf from the just concluded election in Edo State.

Speaking, the Ondo State Council of Obas, Oba Frederick Akinrutan, commended the INEC Chairman and applauded them for their performance at the Edo State election. He pleaded with INEC to ensure a peaceful Election in the State.
