A London court resumed the human trafficking case against former Deputy President of the Senate Ike Ekweremadu and his wife Beatrice on Tuesday, amidst protests outside the court.
According to AFP, the gathering of protesters included both supporters and opponents of the former senator.
Recall, in June 2022, the couple was arrested at Heathrow Airport on allegations of trafficking a young Nigerian man for the purpose of organ harvesting.
Although the couple said the trafficked organ was meant for their daughter, Sonia, who is hospitalized with a kidney-related illness.
In October 2022, there were protests in Abuja calling for the release of the former senator, who has spent 223 days in UK custody.
The court was surrounded by protesters who either supported the couple or protested their continued detention in the UK.
