Edo 2020: Obaseki, Ize-Iyamu Head To Poll

 

It will be a battle between the Peoples Democratic Party and the All Progressives Congress on September 19, 2020, when the state hold it’s governorship election.

Godwin Obaseki a former member of the All Progressives Congress who decamped to the People’s Democratic Party as Preparations to the elections heated up and Osagie Ize-Iyamu who is the gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress will square up in the much anticipated election.
Over Two Million voters are expected to participate in the election which has drawn the attention of the international Community including the United States of America.

The USA had warned that it would not hesitate to issue Visa ban on those found undermining Democratic processes during the elections.

The incumbent governor Godwin Obaseki who fell-out of favor with Former governor and former All Progressives Congress(APC) national Chairman is banking on his incumbency and his performance in office while All Progressives Congress flag-bearer is promising to turn the fortunes of the state around which to him has been brought aground.

For Obaseki, this election will be a test of his government’s performance, a position he has held sway for four years. Osagie Ize-Iyamu has been contesting since 2007 but unlike in 2016 he contested under the opposition party, he will now contest as a candidate of the ruling party.

Edo South (Benin) accounts for bulk of eligible voters with an estimated 58% voting strength. The Zone has local government areas such as Oredo, Ikpoba Okha, Egor, Orhionmwon, Uhumwonde, Ovia North-East and Ovia North South-West.

Edo North has an estimated voting strength of 26%. The Zone has six local government areas. They are Etsako West, Etsako east, Etsako central, Owan east, Owan west and Akoko Edo.

Other zones such as Edo Central (Esan) zone with five local government areas take the remaining percentage of voters.
INEC has also noted that it would enable a result viewing portal.

The commission had said it would deploy a new technology called Z-pad which will only serve as biometric accreditation using the photographs of voter’s fingerprints.
The real-time posting of election results, as stated by INEC, simply entails posting and uploading photographs of EC8A/EC8A(VP), EC60, 40H forms results in PDF versions from polling units of a particular election in a given state.
