Easter: Nigeria Declares Friday, Monday Public Holidays
The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced that Friday, March 29th, and Monday, April 1st, 2024, will be observed as public holidays in observance of Good Friday and Easter Monday, respectively.
The declaration was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on Wednesday, on behalf of the Federal Government.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo emphasized the importance of these holidays, urging both Christians and all Nigerians to reflect on the values of sacrifice and love embodied by Jesus Christ during this period.
In addition to their religious significance, Dr. Tunji-Ojo highlighted the broader societal implications of Easter, citing its promotion of values such as love, forgiveness, and compassion. These values, he noted, are vital for fostering social cohesion and harmony in Nigeria.
Furthermore, the Minister called upon Christians to embrace these virtues, emphasizing their potential to positively impact Nigeria’s socio-economic development by fostering unity, reducing conflicts, and encouraging cooperation among citizens.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo also urged Nigerians to demonstrate acts of charity and generosity towards the less privileged, aligning with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the President.
He extended warm wishes for a joyous Easter celebration to Christians both at home and abroad, while also calling for collective support for the President Tinubu-led Administration’s efforts to achieve sustainable development and prosperity for all.
