Diaspora Alliance Calls for Revolutionary Leadership in Nigeria, Backs Peter Obi as the Liberationist
By Boniface Ihiasota, USA
Nigerians abroad have shown their support for Peter Obi, the Labor Party’s presidential candidate in the recent general election.
At a gathering, conveyed by Diaspora Alliance, called “A Banquet of Honor – A Handshake With Our Principal Peter Obi (CON)” held in Maryland, United States, the majority expressed their belief that Obi is a revolutionary leader capable of transforming Nigeria’s economy from a consumption-focused to a production-oriented one.
Barrister Emmanuel Ihim, the convener of the Diaspora Alliance, stressed the importance of having a revolutionary leader to liberate Nigeria and declared that Peter Obi embodies this leadership.
During the event, Barrister Ihim called for justice, accountability, and adherence to the constitution from the Supreme and Appeal Justices of Nigeria.
He urged them to uphold the rule of law and the principles that guide their decisions, as the fate of the nation rests in their hands.
Barrister Ihim pledged to hold the justices accountable for their actions and the outcome of the case.
Dr. Hyacinth Umunnakwe Nwachukwu, addressing the gathering, praised Peter Obi for his positive impact on Nigerian politics and expressed gratitude to Dr. Emmanuel Ihim, the entire Diaspora Alliance, and the obedient movement family for organizing the event.
Dr. Nwachukwu acknowledged the presidential election held on February 25, 2023, which fell short of expectations and was marred by electoral malpractice, harassment, and intimidation.
He commended Obi for taking the matter to court while appealing for calm, peace, and decorum among Obi’s supporters in Nigeria and abroad.
However, he expressed disappointment in the malicious campaign launched by the opposition party, APC, against Obi and the Labor Party, noting that their efforts would be in vain.
With the case now before the electoral tribunal, Dr. Nwachukwu humbly called on the Nigerian judiciary to recognize the gravity of the situation, emphasizing that the ultimate goal is to save the country from collapse.
Professor Pat Utomi also weighed in, urging Nigerians to actively contribute to making democracy work. He highlighted the prevalent focus on self-enrichment among Nigeria’s political elite and job seekers, contrasting this with more developed democracies.
Dr. Jude Onyegbado acknowledged that Nigerians had expressed their will through their votes and contributions, regardless of age.
He expressed confidence that the outcome of the case would yield a different result.
