Deputy Speaker Reveals Ongoing Efforts to Secure Nnamdi Kanu’s Release
The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has shared on the “South East Political Roundtable” radio program that endeavors are underway to secure the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra.
Speaking on FLO FM in Umuahia, Kalu advised South-East youths to abandon the sit-at-home directive by IPOB, emphasizing its negative impact on the region’s investment climate.
Kalu highlighted the positive impact of the Peace In South-East Project in Abia State’s Bende Local Government Area and called for armed youths to embrace non-kinetic approaches to address security challenges.
He urged for a peaceful resolution, stating, “Violence won’t work; let’s be wiser. The wisdom is in peace. Let’s quench the violence.”
Kalu emphasized the need to support Nnamdi Kanu without resorting to violence, encouraging unity for effective advocacy.
The Deputy Speaker also called for an end to the Monday sit-at-home, asserting that Igbo strength lies in hard work and resilience, not in disruptions.
Addressing concerns about President Bola Tinubu, Kalu clarified that the President supports the South-East, citing the appointment of an Igbo son to lead the Ministry of Works.
He emphasized the importance of unity to achieve common goals and reassured that the release of Nnamdi Kanu is a shared objective.
Nnamdi Kanu has been in DSS custody since 2021, facing terrorism charges, with the Supreme Court approving his trial on December 15.
Despite the challenges, calls for a political solution have been voiced, especially by the Ohanaeze Indigbo.
