The two-day event, attended by Excel Magazine International US Executive, Nnenna Joy Ugorji and accompanied by Lady Bose Ugorji in London, brought together family, friends, and esteemed guests from Nigeria to witness this harmonious union.
On Friday, September 8, 2023, from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM, the Wandsworth Civic Suite on Wandsworth High Street, London, served as the picturesque backdrop for the traditional Nigerian ceremony. The atmosphere was filled with the vibrant colors and elegance of formal and traditional attire, creating an atmosphere of cultural reverence and celebration.
The ceremony began with heartfelt prayers from the parents, symbolizing the joining of two families. Notably, the bride’s father, who was dearly missed, was commemorated in spirit as her mother, Mrs Oladunni and the groom’s parents, Dr Rex Obonna and Mrs Chika Charity Obonna who reside in Lancaster in London played pivotal roles in the proceedings.
Distinguished guests who graced the event included Surveyor Anosike and President General Ezuruezu Mbaise, who traveled from Nigeria to witness this union of cultures.
On Saturday, September 9, 2023, the festivities continued with a church ceremony at St Botolph’s-without-Aldersgate on Aldersgate Street, London, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM. The guests, adorned in black tie, formal attire, and traditional Nigerian garments, witnessed the couple exchange their vows in a touching ceremony that bridged their cultural backgrounds.
The celebration reached its zenith with the grand wedding reception held at Plaisterers’ Hall on London Wall, from 3:30 PM to 11:30 PM. The evening was marked by sumptuous cuisine, enchanting music, and heartfelt speeches from family and friends.
Among the guests who added a touch of elegance to the reception were Sir Ben & Lady Chinyere Okoronkwo, who joined the festivities with grace and charm.
The bride, Elizabeth, who is an Attorney, hails from the Yoruba tribe, with her late father deeply cherished in memory, while the groom, Dr. Uche Obonna, proudly represents the Igbo tribe from Mbaise, Imo State. His parents’ presence emphasized the significance of the cross-cultural union.
This unforgettable wedding celebration not only united Dr. Uche Obonna and Elizabeth Oladunni in matrimony but also celebrated the fusion of two rich and diverse Nigerian cultures, making it a truly exceptional and heartwarming event.
