The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) said on Wednesday that a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has ordered the federal government to recover pensions paid to former governors who had served as senators and ministers.
This information is contained in the official Twitter handle of SERAP.
‘We’ve obtained a landmark judgement from the federal high court ordering Nigeria Government to recover life pensions collected by Saraki, Akpabio, others and directing the AGF to challenge the legality of states’ pension laws permitting former governors to collect such pendions,’ SERAP wrote on its Twitter handle.
It will be recalled that SERAP sued the Federal Government in 2017 over its failure to stop former governors from receiving double pay and pensions.
However,SERAP also added that they won’t rest until this judgement is carried as they expect other governors to follow the footsteps taken by Zamfara state in abolishing pension laws in the state.
‘We won’t rest until this judgement is fully enforced and all state governors follow Zamfara state by immediately abolishing pension laws in their states’, SERAP said.
