Controversy as Singer Simi Slams Pastor for Promoting Self-Hate Among Women

Popular Nigerian singer, Simi, has voiced her concerns regarding a female pastor’s controversial statement that advised women to alter their natural appearance by wearing wigs to attract potential suitors.

The preacher’s comments went viral after a video of her remarks circulated, sparking a passionate response from Simi.

In a post on her official Twitter account and seen by Excel Magazine International, the singer criticized the preacher’s words, accusing her of promoting self-hate among women.

Simi firmly believes that such harmful rhetoric contributes to the issues many young women face in embracing their natural appearances, sometimes resorting to skin bleaching to conform to societal standards.

Simi went on to highlight the significance of women loving themselves for who they are, asserting that statements targeting their natural hair can erode their self-esteem.

In her view, the self-acclaimed preacher perpetuated harmful stereotypes by suggesting that women should abandon their natural hair to be considered attractive.

She also condemned the pastor for setting a detrimental example for young women and providing misguided advice.

Simi’s tweet conveyed her perspective, stating, “Even when you hide self-hate inside ‘good advice’, it’s still self-hate. This is why 90% of skin care products in countries full of beautiful dark skin girls/women are ‘whitening creams’. And girls are told that the hair that grows out of their hair is not special enough. It’s not that you’re not good enough, it’s that they said you’re not good enough. She’s on the pulpit too. A role model. Lol. Wetin God no send una, na hin una like to dey do.”

The singer, however, faced some backlash from individuals who pointed out that she had a wig on in her display image.

Unfazed by the criticism, Simi maintained her position and urged people to stop imposing changes on women based on external judgments.

“I’ve seen actual morons now imply that my point is moot because I have a blonde wig on in my avi. I’m hesitant to believe you can be this slow. But if it looks like red, it is probably red. Wear whatever tf you want. Just stop telling women that they’re not good enough as they are. And f**k you,” she passionately tweeted.
