Burna Boy Loses Seven Nominations at BET Hip-Hop Awards

In a recent turn of events at the 2023 BET Hip-Hop Awards in Atlanta, Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Burna Boy faced disappointment as he lost all seven of his nominations.

The awards ceremony, which took place at Atlanta’s Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center on October 3 and was broadcast on Tuesday night, October 10, saw Burna Boy come up short in various categories.

The self-proclaimed ‘African Giant’ was edged out by American rapper Kendrick Lamar in several significant categories.

Kendrick Lamar claimed victory in the Hip Hop Artist of the Year, Lyricist of the Year, and Best Live Performer of the Year categories.

Additionally, Burna Boy lost out on the Hustler of the Year award to 50 Cent and the Best Collaboration of the Year for his song ‘Sittin’ On Top Of The World’ featuring 21 Savage, which went to Lil Durk and J. Cole for their track ‘All My Life.’

Burna Boy’s other defeats included the Best Hip Hop Video category for ‘Sittin’ On Top Of The World,’ where Lil Uzi Vert’s ‘Just Wanna Rock’ emerged victorious, as well as Song of the Year, where the same song prevailed.

Meanwhile, Kendrick Lamar had a remarkable night, emerging as the evening’s top winner by securing four awards. He dominated every category in which he was nominated, securing accolades for hip hop artist of the year, lyricist of the year, best live performer, and video director of the year, sharing the latter with his collaborator Dave Free.

In another exciting development, Ghanaian music sensation Black Sherif clinched the award for the Best International Flow category, surpassing competitors like South Africa’s late AKA and K.O, France’s Gazo and Ninho, and the UK’s J Hus, Central Cee, among others.
