Buhari Grief Over Ambush Of NSCDC Personnel In Kaduna
At least seven NSCDC officials were murdered during the attack, Buhari acknowledged in a statement released on January 12 by his spokesperson, Garba Shehu.
The President referred to the death of the NSCDC employees as a tragic incident and praised the men’s heroism for sacrificing their life for the good of the country.
“The NSCDC personnel who overcame all difficulties to preserve our nation and its people had rendered the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty,” the president was cited by Shehu as saying.
“My thoughts are with the bereaved families and their compatriots in the service. May Almighty God grant them and the entire service the fortitude to bear the loss.”
The ICIR learned that on January 9 at the Manini area along the Kaduna-Birnin Gwari Highway, bandits also killed six local security personnel (vigilantes) along with the NSCDC officers.
According to reports, the attack took place at around 3 o’clock while NSCDC staff and vigilantes were visiting a nearby mining site.
The Kaduna State Ministry of Mines staff were attacked while performing official duties at the Kuriga mining site, according to the NSCDC Director of Public Relations Olusola Odumosu, who also condemned the act.
The statement further read;
“In honour of the slain personnel, the CG has directed that the Corps’ flag be hoisted at half-mast and that a national prayer involving both Christians and Muslims be organized at the Corps National headquarters, Abuja, to pray for God’s protection for all officers and men of the Corps in the new year, and avert a recurrence of such awful incident,”
