The President of Nigeria Muhammadu Buhari has approved a new salary scale and retirement age for teachers across the country.
This announceement came on Monday, 5th October during the World Teachers’ Day. This new development was announced by the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu. The President increased the number of service years from 35 to 40.
The president stated there is need to make these adjustments as it will enable teachers to perform their services better.
The president advised the ministry to go ahead to implement the new salary scheme. He further explained that teachers have the capacity to shape and reshape the lives of younger generation and improve their potential.
“Only great teachers can produce excellent people and students that will make the future of our country great. Positive or negative influence of a teacher on any child will have an effect on that child. Therefore the federal government is ensuring quality education”, he said.
The Commander in Chief further emphasized that the progress of the country depends a lot on the quality of the education system.
