BREAKING: Ondo Governor, Akeredolu is Dead
In a saddening turn of events, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State has passed away in Lagos at the age of 67, as confirmed by reliable sources.
Reports reveal that Governor Akeredolu, who returned to Nigeria in September after a three-month medical leave in Germany, was under the care of State House doctors until his demise. Despite efforts, he could not be transported abroad for medical treatment.
Excel Magazine International learnt that last week, there were frantic attempts to secure dialysis machines for the ailing governor at his undisclosed location in Lagos. This development follows his recent medical leave, which was initiated at the directive of President Bola Tinubu, leading to his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, assuming the role of acting governor.
In a move that drew public criticism, Governor Akeredolu attempted to govern the state from Ibadan, Oyo State’s capital, upon his return to Nigeria in September.
The sorrowful situation has also impacted personal plans, as Governor Akeredolu’s wife, Betty, announced the suspension of activities marking her 70th birthday. This decision comes amid questions raised about celebrating amidst her husband’s deteriorating health.
In a statement shared on Twitter, Betty expressed regret for any inconvenience caused by the suspension of birthday activities, assuring well-wishers of a grand celebration upon her return. The people of Ondo State and beyond now mourn the loss of a dedicated leader, while the reins of governance rest in the hands of Acting Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
