BREAKING: National Assembly Set to Pass 2024 Budget Today
The National Assembly is set to pass the 2024 Appropriation Bill today, Saturday, December 30, during the plenary session, Excel Magazine International has gathered.
Both the Red and Green chambers will approve the harmonized 2024 budget as prepared by the National Assembly in their respective sittings.
According to a statement from the Clerk to the Senate, Chinedu Akubueze, the plenary will commence promptly at 1 pm. Akubueze informed Distinguished Senators that the originally scheduled time of 11:00 am has been adjusted to the new time.
Similarly, the Clerk to the House of Representatives, Dr. Yahaya Danzaria, confirmed the shift in timing for the plenary to 1:00 pm in his statement.
Senate leader Opeyemi Bamidele emphasized the commitment of federal lawmakers to truncate their holidays, ensuring the swift passage of the 2024 appropriations bill. He assured Nigerians that the National Assembly would pass the budget on December 30.
Bamidele provided updates on the bill, highlighting efforts to expedite the process by streamlining appearances before joint committees, reducing the budget defense time, and eliminating the need for harmonization. The Senate leader mentioned the assembly’s commitment, even sitting on Saturdays and potentially on Sunday as they approach the year-end.
Reconvening on December 29, the National Assembly aims to pass the budget by December 30, presenting it to the President on January 1, 2024, for prompt assent and subsequent implementation.
