BREAKING: Malawi VP, Saulos Chilima Dies in Plane Crash with Nine Others
Malawi Vice President, Saulos Chilima and nine others have been reportedly killed in a tragic plane crash on Tuesday, Excel Magazine International can report.
The news was confirmed by Colleen Samba, the president’s secretary.
The plane, which had gone missing on Monday (June 10), was discovered in Chikangawa Forest following an extensive search operation, confirming all occupants were found dead.
The Office of the President and Cabinet released a formal statement and obtained by Excel Magazine International, detailing the accident.
According to the statement, the aircraft carrying Vice President Saulos Chilima, former First Lady Shanil Dzimbiri, and eight other individuals departed from the capital but lost contact with air traffic control in Mzuzu.
Due to bad weather and poor visibility, air traffic control had advised the pilots to turn around, but the plane disappeared from radar shortly after.
Chilima, who had served as vice president since 2014, had a notable career prior to his political tenure, leading companies such as Airtel Malawi, Unilever, Coca Cola, and Carlsberg.
The crash has left the nation in mourning as the government and citizens grapple with the loss of their vice president and other notable figures.
