The Labour Party candidate, Alex Otti, has emerged as the winner of the Abia State governorship election, defeating his closest rival and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), with a total of 175,466 votes.

The election results were eventually declared on Wednesday, following the controversial suspension and later resumption of collation of results from the Obingwa Local Government Area, which saw the PDP score 9,962 votes, while the Labour Party garnered 3,776 votes.

In total, the Labour Party won in 10 Local Government Areas (LGAs), while the PDP won in six LGAs and the Young Peoples Party emerged victorious in one LGA.

The Returning Officer, Prof. Nnenna Oti, declared Chief Alex Otti the winner at the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission in Umuahia, the state capital, Wednesday afternoon, after completing the collation of results from all 17 LGAs of Abia State.
