BREAKING: INEC Announces Uzodimma Winner of Imo Gov Election
The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has officially declared Hope Uzodimma of the All Progressives Congress as the winner of the Imo State governorship election held on Saturday, Excel Magazine International can report.
The announcement was made by Prof. Abayomi Fasina, the state Returning Officer, and Vice-Chancellor of Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, at INEC’s collation center in Owerri.
Uzodimma secured victory with 540,308 votes, while Samuel Anyanwu of the Peoples Democratic Party came in second with 71,503 votes. Athan Achonu of the Labour Party claimed the third position with 64,081 votes.
Anthony Ejiogu of the All Progressives Grand Alliance secured 6,392 votes, securing the fourth position, and Jack Ogunewe of the Action Alliance came fifth with 5,756 votes.
Prof. Abayomi Fasina, the Returning Officer, stated, “I, Prof. Abayomi Fasina, was the Returning Officer for the Imo State governorship election held on November 11, 2023. The candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Hope Uzodimma, having scored the highest number of votes and satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner of the election and returned elected.”
INEC’s results indicated that Uzodimma secured victories in all 27 Local Government Areas of the state. His inauguration for a second term is scheduled for January 14, 2024.
Earlier, as gathered by Excel Magazine International, LP’s State Agent, Callistus Ihejiagwa, was forcibly removed from the state Collation center after protesting alleged manipulation in favor of the APC candidate.
PDP’s State Agent, Kissinger Ikeokwu, left the collation center, and both parties called for the outright cancellation of the poll, claiming election rigging in favor of Uzodimma.
