Tragedy struck in Imo State as Chief Humphrey Anumudu, a prominent businessman and aspirant of the Labour Party (LP) in the upcoming Governorship primaries, was found dead in his Lagos home.
Anumudu reportedly passed away after returning from a meeting at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja on Friday.
Hailing from the Mbieri Ancient Kingdom in Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State, Anumudu was a seasoned politician with a long history of seeking the governorship seat of his home state.
He was widely regarded as the true winner of the Peoples Democratic Party’s gubernatorial primary in 1998, a ticket that ultimately went to Achike Udenwa.
Since then, Anumudu had remained steadfast in his pursuit of the coveted position, even contesting the 2019 elections as the Zenith Labour Party candidate.
According to family sources, the late politician was allegedly the victim of a “spiritual attack,” which claimed his life.
A close friend of the deceased reported that Anumudu passed away around 5:30 pm on Friday.
Chief Anumudu’s death comes as a shock to many, especially considering his significant financial clout and political experience.
As the Chief Executive Officer of Globe Motors, he was a respected legal luminary and an astute politician.
The late aspirant had even paid the sum of 25 million Naira for Labour Party’s gubernatorial form for the November 11th, 2023, contest.
The passing of Chief Anumudu is a significant loss to the political landscape of Imo State and the nation as a whole. His dedication and commitment to public service will be sorely missed.
