BREAKING: Court Sacks Abure, Recognizes Apapa as LP Nat’l Chair
The Court of Appeal in Owerri, Imo State, has made a significant ruling regarding the leadership of the Labour Party, Excel Magazine International can report.
The court,Thursday, removed Julius Abure from the position of National Chairman and officially recognized Lamido Apapa as the new National Chairman of the Labour Party.
It further issued a directive to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to promptly recognize and publish the names of all governorship candidates endorsed by the Apapa-led National Working Committee in Imo, Bayelsa, and Kogi states.
Additionally, the court has nullified the governorship candidature of Senator Athan Achonu from Imo State, as well as others affiliated with the Abure-led faction of the Labour Party.
It is worth noting that in April, Lamido Apapa asserted that his suspension from the party was invalid, asserting his position as the ‘legitimate acting chairman.’
However, it’s essential to highlight that on August 14, it was reported that a Court of Appeal in Benin City, Edo State, affirmed Julius Abure as the National Chairman of the Labour Party. This information was disclosed in a statement by the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Obiora Ifoh.
Also, on May 26, a State High Court in Edo dismissed a notice of suspension issued against Julius Abure by some party members at the ward level, with the judge, Justice Emmanuel Aihamoje, citing a lack of merit in the case.
These recent legal developments indicate a dynamic and evolving situation within the Labour Party’s leadership, with contrasting court decisions.
