BREAKING: AMAA Founder, Peace Anyiam-Osigwe is Dead

It is with deep sadness that we report the passing of Nigerian filmmaker and founder of the African Movie Academy Awards, Peace Anyiam-Osigwe.

According to reports, she passed away in a hospital in Lagos State after being in a coma for some days.

Her colleague, Obi Emelonye, confirmed the news early Tuesday morning via Instagram account, sharing a picture of Anyiam-Osigwe with thus caption: “Thank you and good night dada Peace. 🕯🕯🕯🕯”

Anyiam-Osigwe, who also served as the President of the Association of Movie Producers, was a prominent figure in the Nollywood film industry and was recognized as one of its pillars.

In 2005, she founded the Africa Film Academy which organizes the annual African Movie Academy Awards (AMAA).

In a press conference last year, Anyiam-Osigwe shared her plans to focus more on training young filmmakers in the future.

Anyiam-Osigwe came from the notable Anyiam-Osigwe family in Nkwerre, Imo State, and was the only girl in a family of eight children. She held a degree in Law and Political Science from Oxford Brookes University.
