Banditry: Governor Matawalle Suspends Badarawa District Head

By JETHRO KATUNG

Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara state has suspended the District Head of Badarawa in Shinkafi emirate, Surajo Namakkah.

Our correspondent gathered that Namakkah’s suspension followed his conferment of a title on a military officer arrested for selling ammunition to bandits.

It was learnt that Namakkah’s indefinite suspension was announced on Friday, April 16, by the Director-General of Media to Zamfara State Government, Yusuf Idris.

Governor Matawalle pledged to ensure that anybody found wanting in any way that could disrupt the peace of Zamfara state would be dealt with accordingly.

He warned that henceforth Traditional Rulers must seek approval before conferring traditional titles, to avoid unnecessary embarrassment to the government and the traditional institution.

According to the Governor, the Military officer was arrested in possession of 20 rounds of 62mm live ammunition.

He said, “the suspect was reportedly at the point of handing over ammunition to one Kabiru Bashiru of Maniya village, Shinkafi Emirate, and had allegedly collected an advance payment of N100,000 from bandits.”

While commending the efforts of Zamfara State Police Command, Governor Matawalle expressed sadness over the involvement of some irresponsible security personnel in banditry.
