Ban On Food From North To South In Nigeria Causes Outrage

There is currently outrage in Nigeria as food has been made to halt moving from the Northern part of the country to the South.

The development started when a body known as Amalgamated Union of Foodstuffs and Cattle Dealers of Nigeria (AUFCDN) instructed blockage of food to Southern states in the country. The body blamed its decision on insecurity and alleged inhumane treatment meted on it’s members in the Southern part of the country.
It would be recalled that crisis between Northern part of the country and Southern part of the country deepened when herders were accused of criminality such as kidnapping, killing farmers among others.
The decision to stop food movement to the Southern part of the country led to outrage with many Nigerians condemning the decision.
A former Minister of Youth and Sports development in the country, Solomon Dalung described the decision of the AUFCDN as the failure of the law and raises questions on the supremacy of the law.
A Twitter user @von_Bismack said
“Someone asked you to stop killing his people, your response is to block passage for foods. Since Buhari took over, Miyetti Allah has held this nation hostage, making threats and declarations, killings and sorts yet they are free as air. The South will remember”

Another Twitter user with handle @GreatATagana noted the development may encourage full blown restructuring
“It is best they block passage of food. Once the South finds another way to source their food, instead of over dependence on the North, then the path to restructuring begins”

@TosinOlugbenga tweeted;
“Miyetti Allah ahs become government to itself. They decided who should get food or not. Buhari gave them that voice. Imagine the south also block trailers and Oil tankers from going to the North. Since we are now tired of ourselves, let us call for referendum and go our ways”

The price of food has been reported to have skyrocketed in the Southern part of the country while food has become relatively cheaper in the North even as patronage becomes problematic.
As at the time of this report, the President, Muhammadu Buhari was said to be hosting a security meeting at the Aso Rock Villa.
