Appeal Court Upholds Election Victory of Gov. Sanwo-Olu
In a verdict rendered on Wednesday, the Lagos Appeal Court affirmed the tribunal’s decision, validating the election of Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Obafemi Hamzat as Governor and Deputy Governor of Lagos State, respectively.
The lawsuit brought forth by Olajide Adediran, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), challenging Sanwo-Olu’s election, was dismissed by the court.
An unanimous decision by the three-member panel, presided over by Yargata Nimpa, rejected the grounds of appeal presented by Adediran, also known as Jandor.
Justice Yargata Nimpa, alongside Justice Samuel Bola and Justice Paul Bassey, jointly delivered the judgement. This ruling reinforces the earlier decision of the tribunal, which upheld Sanwo-Olu’s victory in the March 11 election.
The justices emphasized, “Even though these were pre-election matters, the appellants (PDP and Adeniran) failed to substantiate their claims. Their petition is dismissed; they came empty-handed and left empty-handed, merely enjoying their day in court.”
