Akpabio, Nnamani, Goje, Fayemi Over 50 Others Stole N2.187 Trillion as Governors– EFCC
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has alleged that 58 former governors were implicated in misappropriation, embezzlement, or laundering of approximately N2.187 trillion over 25 years.
This sum, Excel Magazine International gathered, excludes seized properties worldwide and ongoing investigations, which total billions of Naira.
The N2.2 trillion misappropriated mirrors the combined budgets of Lagos State and the South-East states for 2024, surpassing the budgets of the North-Central and North-East states for 2024 by several billion Naira.
Excel Magazine International reports that the EFCC is actively investigating and prosecuting 58 ex-governors from various regions since the restoration of civilian government in 1999, amidst 170 governors serving in Nigeria’s 36 states during this period.
The ex-governors under investigation, along with alleged amounts, include:
