After Publicly Admitting Guilt, Senator Abbo Pleads Not Guilty in Court, Gets N5m Bail

Drama as Self-confessed Woman-beater Senator Pleads Not Guilty in Court, Gets N5m Bail

A mild drama played out on Monday Zuba Magistrate Court in Abuja as self-confessed woman-beater Senator Elisha Abbo, representing Adamawa North Senatorial District, told the court that he was not guilty of a one-count charge of assault.

Abbo, who was arraigned by the Federal Capital Territory Police Command after a video of him assaulting a nursing mother in a sex toy shop in Abuja went viral, had last week tendered public apologies over his conduct and begged for forgiveness.

But, the Senator appearing today at the Magistrate Court pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Ruling on the matter, Senior Magistrate Abdullahi Ilellah, granted Abbo bail in the sum of N5 million and two sureties in like sum.

Ilellah also ruled that the sureties must have verifiable addresses within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The case has since been adjourned to July 22 for hearing.
